Therapists
Tara is our lead Military Specific Therapist and Safeguarding Lead.

A fully qualified BACP registered therapist with an Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling.
Tara provides both short and long-term trauma-informed military specific counselling, supporting veterans and their families with a wide range of issues from both service life and civvy street.
Depression, Anxiety, difficulties transitioning to civvy street, addictions, trauma, relationship breakdowns, Moral Injury, and much, much more.

Tara works in a unique way, at your pace in a trauma informed way, whilst meeting you on your level, with an understanding of common military language and culture...and yes, you can swear with her!

Tara is also Suicide Intervention trained (ASIST) and holds a qualification from MHFA for Mental Health First Aid for the Armed Forces Community.

We also have Sue, our registered counselling Art Therapist with a wealth of experience from working with military personnel in welfare roles, to providing art therapy to oncology patients in hospital.

Sue has deployed with the United Nations to Iraq and Jordan, and worked with civilian personnel injured in Baghdad. Sue has also spent some time with the Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia, supporting communities in the outback.

Got Your Six UK are also now a placement provider for counselling students, and have opportunities in Weymouth and Wincanton. Students are permitted to see clients presenting with low-level difficulties.

Tara and Sue are available to see clients in both Weymouth and Wincanton. Assessments will be carried out by Tara and a suitable therapist will be allocated to you.

We also use external therapists such as those specialising in EMDR to refer our clients to, to ensure the best possible therapy is given based on the clients needs.

Got Your Six UK is a Community Interest Company, supporting the mental health and wellbeing of our military community.
Since it began, the project has been supporting the military community in a variety of ways, including our trauma-informed military specific counselling service based at The Veterans Hub Weymouth and Portland CIC, offering serving and veteran peer support mentors, and our military community art exhibition.

In June 2024, Got Your Six UK opened a brand new Community Hub and Military Specific Therapy Centre to extend our support into south Somerset and north Dorset. Wincanton, Somerset became our full-time home, although we are still based in Weymouth twice a week.

Our hub is the base for our therapy service, as well as being an informal drop-in space for all to enjoy. The social aspect of the project offers the opportunity for veterans to find a sense of belonging once they have left service, spouses a way to connect and find support particularly when their serving person is away, and serving personnel a place to meet their local community.
We also have a pre-loved book shop to help reduce waste locally and promote the therapeutic benefits of reading. The social space is also used to hold workshops and talks throughout the year, and our communal garden is available for those who enjoy some outdoor relaxation.
Our first Military Community Art Exhibition in 2023 saw over 20 artists displaying paintings, drawings, photographs, poems, and short-writings from all over the country. To read more about this as published in the Dorset Echo, please click here.

WHO ARE WE?

Directors

Got Your Six UK (CIC) has three directors, Tara, Andy and Gareth.
Both Andy and Tara are already part of The Veterans Hub Weymouth and Portland (CIC); Tara as a Director and Counsellor, and Andy as the Founder and Project Manager, whilst Gaz is a British Army veteran following a career in civvy street after 22 years service.
Being a military specific therapist, and the spouse of a serving pilot, Tara has a good understanding of the military world and the challenges it can bring; whilst veterans, Andy and Gaz, have lived experience of active service, transitioning to civvy street, and some incredible stories to share! (All three have pretty cool dogs too!)

Tara, Andy and Gaz have joined forces to extend support to the military community across south Somerset and north Dorset.

Andy is available to hire via The Speakers Agency - click here to view his profile and book.
Peer Support Mentors

Our Peer Support Mentors are volunteers who offer informal buddy style support to those experiencing difficult times and could do with a likeminded person to chat to informally over a brew.

Alex (and his beautiful dog) joined us as a serving Peer Support Mentor having experienced his own difficulties in mental health. He reached out, took some time off, found his coping strategies and now feels able to offer a helping hand to those who would benefit from some informal support, or assistance to access more specific support.

Paul became a Peer Support Mentor after reaching out to his veteran community for support and now feels in a place to return the favour.
He offers an informal meet up to chat to a fellow veteran who might be able to assist you in accessing
support services, or just some socialisation and integration with the local community. Paul is also training to become a Counsellor as he feels passionate about supporting veterans.

Will is one of our newest Peer Support Mentors. A veteran with a colourful history, he certainly has had his fair share of life experience and is now in a place where he feels he can offer his support back to the military community.
We have other Peer Support Mentors available, all of whom are paired based on experiences, current situations, and available time as a volunteer.

If you would like to become a Peer Support Mentor, please get in touch - email: gotyoursixuk@outlook.com or click here.
